ft. ‘Search Party’ & Blueberry Crumb Bars

We did it — we made it to the first long weekend of 2021! We’re also just five days away from getting to watch none other than JLO and Lady Gaga perform at Joe Biden’s inauguration. Now that’s my type of halftime show. In other good news, Bridgerton has already been renewed for a second season and Girl Scout cookies have a COVID-friendly ordering approach in the works for cookie season. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to watch more of the Duke while shoveling thin mints into my face. Cheers, 2021!

However you’re planning on spending your 3-day weekend, enjoy these quarantivities!

‘Search Party’

Watch this if you love It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia or Schitt’s Creek:

Search Party is back for season four, meaning I can stop trying to find something else to fill the Elliot and Portia-sized void in my soul now. This show is so underrated it pains me, so for those of you who aren’t yet familiar with the joy that is Search Party, it centers around a group of 20-somethings who, after hearing that their college acquaintance Chantal has gone missing, take it upon themselves to find her and solve the mystery of her disappearance.

It may seem noble, but the group is hardly invested for the right reasons. Feeling lost and purpose-less in her life, Dory Sief assembles her boyfriend, as well as her two BFFs — self-proclaimed narcissist Elliot and wannabe actress Portia — to join her on the case. Hey, some people take up yoga to find themselves, other people solve murders! Whatever works! It’s half satire, half thriller, and truly dark comedy at its finest. Run, don’t walk, and gift yourself with watching Search Party this weekend.

Stream it via HBO Max.

‘WandaVision’

Watch this if you’ve been suffering from Marvel withdrawals:

Here’s one for all you Marvel fans — the cinematic universe finally made its promised Disney+ debut today, with the release of WandaVision, a quirky Endgame spin-off starring Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany). For those of you who opted to spend a decent chunk of quarantine re-visiting all 1000 Marvel movies that led up to Endgame, congrats — you earned this.

The show takes place sometime after everything that went down with Thanos, but even though Wanda and Vision are apparently living in the future, things seem to be stuck in the past. And by that, I mean that they are literally trapped inside a 50s sitcom, complete with black-and-white coloring and a laugh track. Between that and the fact that Vision actually died in Infinity War, it’s safe to say that everything is certainly not as it seems. Think The Truman Show-meets-Bewitched, but make it Marvel. Full transparency here, I’m still not entirely sure what this one is exaaactly about, but you can bet I’ll be spending my weekend watching the first two episodes to find out!

‘Pretty Things’ by Janelle Brown

Read this if you’re in the mood for suspense:

Buzzy thriller alert! Nina is a grifter who spends her days scouring Instagram for wealthy rich kids who are too busy vacationing or partying to notice her swiping their Cartier watches from their beach bags. Hmm… maybe Nina should pay a visit to all those influencers who’ve spent the pandemic partying in Tulum… just spitballing here!

But when Nina’s mom gets sick, she realizes that her small-time scams aren’t going to be able to pay the bills. She decides to go all Bling Ring and plan a larger heist involving an heiress named Vanessa. Of course, things don’t go as planned — secrets are spilled, drama’s unfurled, and revenge is dished! Clear your weekend now, because you won’t be able to tear yourself away from this one.
